Phonics Made Easy for Children of 2+ Years

A - Z Phonics

Many of you will be aware that in today’s education the children enter into the world of literacy using the phonetic alphabet. This is used at my nursery as well as in all the local primary schools.

My wish is that both home and nursery support your children, singing from the same song sheet. I have created the App below that goes through all the letters of the alphabet, demonstrating how they ‘sound’ as well as how they are written.

Enter the world of phonics alongside your child having fun with Sounds Make Sounds. Children starting on their journey to fluid reading and writing learn with greater ease when they have this firm grasp of phonetics.

Sounds Make Sounds brings about the awareness of the letters and what their ‘phonetic sound’ sounds like in a fun and interactive way. It ensures they are confident in the recognition of each of the letters and how to produce the sounds that they make.

By using my Sounds Make Sounds app parents, carers and teachers are supported to master these skills themselves and in turn help children gain the required foundations for early reading.

Sounds Make Sounds includes two activities:

Part 1
When you press each of the pictures you will hear the initial sound of the word. Listen to the sound that the letter makes, maybe repeat it and follow the instructions. Pressing the image as it pulses will keep the children motivated and intrigued.
Part 2
This activity focusses on how we write the sounds. Watch the pencil show you the way, then trace the shape of the letter on screen and see what happens! Aimed at children 2+ who are making their first steps into learning to read.

Simple and clear for children to follow

“I have used the app in my Early Years setting and have found it to really support our phonetic journey, giving my little ones the ideal foundation for formal learning at primary level.”

Podcast

Fabulous Phonics

This podcast I presented with Caroline Allen is a helpful introduction to phonics and talks about supporting children’s early progression into literacy.

“In this episode, Sarah Rowledge celebrates how adults who are confident in phonetical awareness can be relaxed and have fun supporting children at the start of their language learning. With her wealth of experience, she is both practical and reassuring.”
